We’ve discussed before how having a Facebook fan page can be one more way to market your Real Estate Investing business. It’s certainly a good way to engage potential investors and as a landlord it’s a good way to publicize events to your tenants.
But having ONLY a Facebook page is a bad move for many reasons.
1. Believe it or not, not everyone uses Facebook so your message might be missing some target audience members. Your audience members might also be logged in at different times of the day so if you post your message in the morning, those tenants who don’t login until the evening most likely will miss your message or your call to action.
2. You have limited branding on Facebook. Sure, you can customize the graphics on your Facebook page but your website is where you can really showcase your company’s branding and where you can more fully explain who you are and what you do. There are also some people who are wary of social media and would prefer going to a website that does not require a username and password to read their information.
3. Your website is all about your content and calls to action. You need to TELL your prospects what to do next; don’t let them guess what you want – spell it out clearly for them. Maybe it’s to sign up for your email list or to read a post on your blog. Tell them what you want them to do.
Yes, you can also do this on Facebook but once again, your message might miss people in your audience due to those who scan quickly or those who miss your message entirely.
Spread Out Your Marketing Message
The proverbial “don’t put all your eggs in one basket” is appropriate to remember in this case. Spread your marketing message using a variety of tools in an effort to reach more of your audience. Relying only on one tool is short-sighted and if anything ever happened to that one tool – such as your website host going out of business – then you would essentially have to start building your prospect list all over again.

I completely agree. As a real estate professional, I know the importance of marketing and using everything that is available to you such as twitter and facebook, but also taking advantage of email campaigns and good old fashioned word of mouth. Great article.
