Foreclosure Rescue Scam Victims Receive Compensation

Nearly 1,500 people who fell victim to a foreclosure rescue scam will receive compensation this week, although the price on the check is merely a fraction of what each victim paid the con artist.

Ringleader Bryan D’Antonio managed to collect about $5,500 from each homeowner with false promises of saving their family homes from foreclosure. Telemarketers working for D’Antonio’s company claimed a 100% success rate and encouraged homeowners to stop making their mortgage payments and instead use that money to pay their fee. Instead of negotiating a lower mortgage and modified payment plan, workers collected the fees and did nothing, resulting in most of the victims losing their homes.

D’Antonio had settled another fraud case with the Federal Trade Commission in 2001 related to a work from home business scam.
